If I have a teaching degree and am an experienced teacher will a TEFL course help me if I want to teach English in Europe?

Definitely!

Teaching ESL/ EFL is quite different from teaching native English students; thus, this training is necessary to help you to alleviate the difficulties inherent in teaching L2 students. Maladies, which surface from jumping unprepared in that raging tide that crosses cultural borders.

Although many organisations will love you for having that teaching degree you mentioned, and may hire you just based on just that, when you are standing in that classroom of some 40 foreigner students, who do not share the same culture and language as you, that teaching degree means squat.

For your own benefit, it is worth the $495 and the few days of brain-sweat that it takes to complete the TEFL online course (they allow you 6 months to complete, but with assiduity, you can knock it out within a week), which adequately prepares you for some of the most common obstructions you will encounter along the ESL/ EFL path.
